Permits
Aegis has an excellent track record in obtaining work permits for our clients.
We are experienced and established as an institution appointed and authorised to secure permits for foreign expertise to work in Trinidad and Tobago.
Aegis has provided a seamless and hassle-free work permit service for over 17 years, and we are well-acquainted with the system.
We can advise on every aspect of a procedure that can seem complicated and confusing.
Who needs a Work Permit?
The Immigration Act states that a work permit must be obtained for each non-national to be employed in Trinidad and Tobago, whether for gain or not, for any period exceeding 30 days in twelve consecutive months.
There are two types of work permit applications:
- The Single Application – to be used when you request an individual work permit or work permits for fewer than 10 persons
- The Group Application – to be used when you request work permits for 10 or more persons
Who can make the application?
In short, either the company in Trinidad and Tobago wishing to employ foreign expertise, or an authorised outsourcing provider such as Aegis.
Our local clients delegate this specialised administrative role to us, and our foreign-based clients are required by law to use a local provider.
How long does the work permit process take?
The current processing time is 4 – 8 weeks, as of August 2018, in accordance with the Ministry of National Security. A specialist service such as ours can sometimes help to streamline the process.
What is the cost?
A non-refundable work permit application fee of TT$600 is payable to the Ministry on submission of the application.
Once approved, a Certificate Duration fee of TT$450 is required for each month that the work permit is in force. This must be paid in full before you collect the permit.
