It is with deep gratitude and profound respect that we pause to honour the life and legacy of Mark Loquan (ORTT), the visionary Founder of Music Literacy Trust. Our Aegis Chairman, Angela Lee Loy is also the Chairman of the Music Literacy Trust.
Angela shared, ‘Mark was more than just a passionate advocate for music literacy — he was a pioneer, a mentor, and a tireless champion of the steelpan, our national instrument.
His dream was not just to preserve this vital part of our culture, but to elevate it through structured education, discipline, and excellence. He believed that music — and the steelpan in particular — had the power to change lives, open minds, and build community.
Because of his foresight, countless young people have had the opportunity to discover their talent, grow in confidence, and find their voice through music. His work laid the foundation for a movement that continues to thrive, long after the first notes were played under his leadership.
As the Music Literacy Trust continues their mission, they will do so with the deepest respect for the standard he set and the values he lived: integrity, passion, innovation, and a love for people and culture.
Let us honour his memory not only with words, but by recommitting ourselves to the vision he carried — ensuring that every generation to come can learn, play, and grow through the gift of steelpan music.
May he rest in peace, and may his music live on in all of us.
With deepest respect and loving remembrance.’
