The current situation has quickly forced students to look at other ways of seeking work experience. Following on from our last story, meet Gerrard Joseph, a budding podcaster and future entrepreneur. Gerrard joined us this July as part of our first remote summer internship program focused on social media and marketing. Here’s his story and experience working virtually with our team.
How is your internship experience going?
This internship has been exactly what I needed for my personal development and professionalism. Although it has been only two months, it has been really effective. My favourite part about this experience has been the motivating interviews with persons from different fields within media, opening my eyes to different perspectives and options.
What are you studying and why?
I have chosen Digital Media Arts with a specialization in Music Technology because I have always loved music. I started playing the piano at a young age, so music has always been with me. So far, it has been the perfect mix of business, marketing and music.
What interesting projects are you working on currently?
Currently, my team and I are working on ‘Tha Culture Tribe’ Podcast where we discuss topics of interest and host guest interviews. It has been a huge part of my self-development this year as an individual as I’ve had to step out of my comfort zone and really get comfortable in front of the camera.
Where do you hope to be in the next five years?
In the next five years, I am aiming to be a proficient podcaster, musician, and marketer. A well-rounded person that is really enjoying life. I think the most important thing in life is to trust the process along the way – that way you really enjoy the journey, knowing that all your mistakes lead to achievements.
What advice would you share with other interns about doing a volunteer remote internship over the vacation holidays?
I would say to take it all in as it comes and to try your best because you never know the opportunities that may lie ahead for you because of the internship. Ensure you learn from the internship as much as possible and stay organized. I also would say to manage your time efficiently and effectively because time is all we have.
